Professor Lionel Tarassenko (co-founder)

Professor Tarassenko has over 20 years of experience in electrical engineering, especially in signal processing techniques and their application to diagnostic systems. He is the author of 10 patents, 85 refereed publications, 80 conference papers and 3 books.

  • In 1988, having held a number of positions in academia and industry, Professor Tarassenko took up a University Lecturership in Oxford.
  • In 1996 he was elected to a Fellowship of the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) as well as being awarded the IEE Mather Premium for his work on neural networks.
  • Since 1997 Professor Tarassenko has held the Chair in Electrical Engineering at Oxford University.
  • In 2000 Professor Tarassenko was elected to a Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
  • In 2001 he was awarded the Rolls-Royce Chairman’s Award for Technical Innovation for his research on jet engine health monitoring.
  • In 2003 his work on mobile phones for healthcare was highly commended at the Medical Futures Innovation Awards.
  • Professor Tarassenko was Scientific Co-ordinator for the Office of Science & Technology (DTI) Foresight Project on Cognitive Systems from 2002 to 2004. He is also a member of the ICT Strategy Assessment Team of the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council.
  • In addition to being a founder  of e-San, he has been a founder director of ThirdPhase Ltd (acquired by the Cmed Group in February 2002) .
  • Over the last ten years, he has received more than six million pounds in research grants from EPSRC, DTI, the Welcome Trust, the EU and directly from industry.

Professor Tarassenko gained a BA in Engineering Science and a DPhil in Medical Engineering from Oxford University.

Jay Mason

Dr. Jay Mason, is a renowned and respected expert in the field of cardiology, who works closely with the OBS Medical research team on innovative clinical algorithms for safer hospitals, safer patients and safer drugs. Dr. Mason supports worldwide pharmaceutical and biotech clients on cardiac safety.

Dr. Mason served as Medical Director and Director of Research and Development at Covance Cardiac Safety Services from April 2003 to April 2007. Dr. Mason’s career began with graduation from Princeton University and the University of Pennsylvania, where he obtained his medical degree. He trained in Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases at Stanford University Medical Center, where he was a member of the faculty from 1975 to 1983 and served as Director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service and Co-Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories. He became Chief of Cardiology at the University of Utah in 1983, where he was Primary Investigator of two major NIH-funded international clinical trials and an NIH-funded Specialized Center of Research in Sudden Death. In 1999, Dr. Mason was appointed Chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Kentucky. He remains a faculty member at the latter two institutions. Dr. Mason is the author of over 400 publications and is frequently invited to present on topics related to cardiac arrhythmias and electrophysiology.

Debbie Kennedy

Debbie joined t+ Clinical following 16 years in the clinical trial industry. Previously she worked as Associate Director in Global Clinical Operations, Early Development for Johnson & Johnson. Debbie has also served in senior positions within SmithKline Beecham and Eisai Ltd.
