The Government has produced a set of policies which herald the most far reaching changes within the NHS since its inception in 1948. The White Paper published on July 12 2010 began to give some detail about the new landscape but left many areas unclear with a strong implication that the government expects people, not government to create ‘Big Society’.

In addition, major changes to the core structure of the NHS were introduced in April 2013. PCTs and SHAs are now replaced by CCGs. Simultaneously, CSUs were created to run IT, ICT and other essential support functions to sustain the day-to-day operations of the CCGs. This has resulted in a paradigm shift in the general working of the NHS and going by the Health Secretary’s plans for the future, there are more significant changes to come in the next 12 months.
